Manfrotto BeFree Carbon Fibre TriPod Review. I’ve been using this carbon fibre tripod for over a year now and I highly recommend it, especially for landscape photography. It is extremely lightweight, sturdy and compact and weighing in at only 2.4 lbs (1.1 kg) was a much better option than my older, heavy, tripod.
Another feature and reason as for going with this carbon fibre were the legs, which lock in lever style. I don’t like the twist locks as it takes more time to set up and the lever clips om this Manfrotto BeFree look very well made. I haven’t had any issues with them so far.
I wasn’t too keen on the ball-head with quick release plate even though it seemed quite sturdy. I replaced the ball-head with an Arc Swiss ball joint and plate as I have an Arc Swiss plate screwed to the base of my Sony A7r II. It no longer fits into the carry case which didn’t matter so much, as I usually strap it to the front of my camera bag anyway.
The Manfrotto BeFree Carbon Fibre TriPod comes in black with very sporty white and red stripes. It actually looks really nice compared to the typical metallic painted tripods available.
A feature that helps make the tripod compact is the legs being able to fold around the ball-head. Unfortunetly there is no hook

Why Carbon Fibre and Not Aluminium!
My goal was to carry as little weight as possible as I had a habit of leaving my heavier tripods at home. There was no point in having a tripod if you don’t want to carry it. This was the major factor for going with a carbon fibre tripod even though it cost 3 times more than an aluminium one!
Carbon fibre is known to be better at damping vibration but on a downside would shatter instead of denting like aluminium would. Carbon is also very weather resistant and even resists corrosion when used in salt water, ideal for my type of photography.
Manfrotto BeFree Carbon Fibre TriPod Review – Investment
The Manfrotto BeFree Carbon Fibre TriPod is the perfect companion, especially if you’re shooting with a light-weight mirrorless camera. When purchasing a tripod look at it as a long term investment and get a good quality one. I wasted money on cheap tripods until finally settling for the Manfrotto and have no plans of replacing it. It also goes with me everywhere I shoot which is what the tripod was meant for!
